Mount Crested Butte, a municipality in the Gunnison County, Colorado, is home to the well-known Crested Butte Ski Resort. The area in and around the town is considered ideal for skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking and other outdoor activities. The average snowfall on the mountains on which the Crested Butte Ski Resort is located measures 240/year. Top elevation is 12,162 feet and base elevation is 9,375 feet.
The ski area is spread over 1125 acres, featuring two terrain parks and 121 runs 23% beginner, 57% intermediate and 20% expert. The longest is 2.6 miles in length, but thankfully there are 15 lift systems to help you get to the top.
The US Extreme Skiing Championships and the X Games are held at Crested Butte but the resort is also beginner friendly and so can cater to first timers and adrenaline junkies alike! The town itself also has a Nordic Center equipped with an ice skating rink along with long stretches of wide-open, groomed cross country skiing trails.

Crested Butte Ski Resort: The Current Focus
Crested Butte Mountain Resort was a grand success since its initial opening in 1961. The Resort recently underwent a rebirth in 2004 when the resort was re-opened by Tim and Diane Mueller. CNL lifestyle properties being the new owner of the resort, with the Muellers still running the operational wheels, has invested $315 million in on and off mountain improvements and facilities. The Muellers remain focused on evolving and popularizing the resort in order to answer the growing needs of the community, at the same time, upholding the native culture. To achieve this pur pose, they aim at improving overall guest experience, by renovating the resort to suit the needs and requisites of a cosmopolitan public.

Improvements at the Crested Butte Ski Resort for the approaching winters would include remodeling the Ice Bar on-mountain restaurant which will double its capacity.
The inclusion of a new base area Adventure Park, with year-round synthetic ice rink

* Installation of a lift-served tubing hill.
* The addition of a new beginners learning area where both children and adults would be taught to ski and snowboard.
